Cedar Specifications
Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) is a wonderful wood to work with.
Cedar is popularly used as furniture, specifically things like
chests and foot lockers. However, we carry the big stuff to
build homes. Specifically, we carry a large variety of Cedar
Decking, Cedar Timber, Cedar Beams, Cedar Shakes, Cedar Shingles and
Cedar Lumber. As you can see below, our yard has cedar
of almost any size or type for your use. Our Cedar is
responsibly harvested from managed forests in British Columbia to
provide a truly renewable resource. (note: only 1/3 of 1% of
BC Cedar is harvested each year.) We ship our Cedar products direct
to your home or job site.

Cedar Characteristics
|
Cedar produces long lengths of timber
with true, straight grain. Cedar's fine, straight grain and uniform
texture make it easy to cut, saw and nail with common tools. Cedar
is highly resistant to splitting caused by fasteners. It is free
from pitch and its heartwood has natural decay resistance. Its low
density gives it an insulation value superior to most other species.
Light weight, easy to work, easy to finish, possessing outstanding
dimensional stability.
|
Cedar Decking Color
|
Cedar most often shows a thin layer of
sapwood that is light brown or cream in color. The heartwood is
typically a red to deep reddish brown that often has accentuating
tights knots.
|
Cedar Hardness
|
Cedar's Janka rating is 900 |
Cedar Durability
|
What Cedar lacks in outright hardness,
it compensates for with good shock resistance and structural
stability. |
Cedar Preservation
|
Western Red Cedar is one of the few
wood species that are naturally at home in the outdoors. It is
classified as a durable wood by the building codes across North
America, which permits the use of its heartwood in exterior
applications without preservative treatments. The heartwood contains
extractives that are toxic to decay causing fungi. |
