Shipping FAQ

Short Answer:  If anything unexpected happens, call Advanced Building Supplies immediately.  If your shipment is damaged, note it on the receipt before signing and call ABS!  Detailed answers are as follows.

How will my order be shipped?

Accessories: Your shipment of samples, accessories, fasteners, and so forth will be shipped with UPS or USPS. You will receive an email which will include a scheduled date of delivery and a tracking number.  If you have a preference we will accommodate you however we usually use the most cost effective method.

Deck Packs:  Deck packages or even small quantities of Decking or Lumber will be shipped with a freight company. If you request it, we will send you an email that will include the name of the freight company your order is being shipped, with an estimated date of delivery. The Freight Company will call you the day it arrives at the local terminal to coordinate delivery to your home or jobsite.

Both Deck Pack and Accessories: We will usually send the lumber separate from the accessories.  The exception is if the lumber crate will accommodate the accessories without risk of damage. Then they will be included in the crate.

Will the delivery person unload Deck Pack shipment for me?  No!  All residential deliveries are curbside. You must have someone at the delivery location to unload your shipment.   To unload your decking you will need a large crowbar to open the crate.  Once the crate is open you can then just hand off the decking to someone on the ground.  I have offloaded and stacked with an assistant 1500 linear feet of decking this way in approximately 20 minutes.  This means you (or your contractor) will need at least two people to unload the truck.

What should I do when the shipment arrives?

Check the following when the shipment arrives:
- Verify the number of crates and are that they intact

- Check for damages if appropriate
- Verify the presence of all materials
- Check your order confirmation if the quantity of materials is correct
- Sign the receipt

Inspection: You are responsible for inspecting freight for damages at the time of the delivery. If the pallet is shrink-wrapped, check to see if it is intact.  If, you notice any rips or damages please make a note of it on the delivery receipt. This will ensure proper compensation to you by the Freight Company for mishandling the shipment.  For crated items look to insure that the company has not spilled oil or other liquids onto the crate.

Is everything here? Verify the presence of all materials. We frequently send smaller accessories via UPS or USPS.  However, some smaller materials maybe packaged together within the crate.   Check your order confirmation that you have received the correct quantity of materials. If some materials are missing or the quantity is less than on your order confirmation, make a note on the delivery receipt to ensure proper compensation and correction of the order.

Sign the receipt. Once you have completed the inspection of the delivery and verified that no materials damaged or missing, you may sign the receipt.
